This privacy policy explains how WABI Izakaya & Sushi Bar (“WABI”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit heywabi.com, book a table, or contact us. We follow British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Information we collect
We only collect the personal information you choose to give us:
- Reservations: we take online bookings through OpenTable. When you book, OpenTable collects your name, contact details, date, time, party size and any notes you add (for example, allergies or a celebration), and shares them with us so we can prepare for your visit.
- Messages through our contact form: your name, email address, phone number (optional), the topic and your message.
- When you call or email us: the details you share so we can help you.
Like most websites, our web host automatically records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.
How we use your information
- To confirm, manage or follow up on your reservation.
- To answer your questions and respond to requests, such as large groups, private dining or events.
- To prepare for your visit, for example by noting allergies or seating needs.
- To keep our website secure and working properly.
We do not use your information for marketing unless you ask us to, and we never sell or rent your personal information.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run our website and business, and only as much as they need. These include our website hosting company and our email provider, which deliver the reservation and contact messages you send us. Some of these providers may store information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.
Third-party services on our website
- Google Maps: our Contact Us page shows an embedded Google map. When it loads, Google may receive your IP address and set its own cookies.
- OpenTable: the booking widget on our Book a Table page is provided by OpenTable. Reservations you make through it are also covered by the OpenTable Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts: our typefaces are loaded from Google, which receives your IP address when the page loads.
- Social media links: if you follow a link to Instagram, Facebook or Yelp, that site’s own privacy policy applies.

Cookies
Our website does not use tracking or advertising cookies. Third-party content such as the embedded Google map may set its own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
How long we keep it
We keep reservation requests and messages only as long as we need them to look after your booking or answer your question, and for reasonable business records. After that, we delete them.
How we protect it
Our website uses a secure (HTTPS) connection, and access to reservation and contact messages is limited to the staff who need them. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, unless we are required to keep it. You can also withdraw your consent at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will respond within 30 business days.
If you have a concern we have not resolved, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Children
Our website is meant for adults making reservations or enquiries. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
